The portrait provides the connection with our Rabbi, and he provides the strength to overcome life’s most difficult obstacles. The powerful energy and keen insight of the Torah passes through Ovadia Yosef’s portrait and into the home of his faithful followers.

His family moved to Jerusalem when he was four. As they struggled financially, Maran was forced to work from a young age. However, his passion and skill for Torah study quickly became apparent and he stood out as a diligent scholar.

Maran is well known to be the spiritual leader of the Orthodox Sha”s party. During his lifetime, he was highly respected within Mizrahi and Haredi communities. He became the highest universal figure of Sephardic Jewry, never compromising on his commitment to the study of Torah and service to the Jewish community. While he often consulted with Presidents, Prime Ministers, and other world leaders, he never failed to respect and provide for his people. The vast knowledge and wisdom he held ultimately led him to become Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel. Through his presence with our realistic digital hand-drawn portrait, Maran’s wisdom can be felt and experienced in all its magnitude. Throughout his life, he was respected across the world for his devoted study, commitment, and worship.

Even before his influence was known across the world, Maran was given the opportunity to complete a detailed commentary on the Ben Ish Hai which was given the title, Halikhot Olam. His commentary was well-received, thus his career sparked. Yechaveh Da’at and Yabia Omer, two sets of Maran’s responsa were also published in the first half of his career. They were written with such incredible detail and precise citations, that many often referred to them as indices of the important rulings they represented. In regard to the laws of Shabbat and other topics, Maran wrote a series of books that were published as responsa. He also wrote a commentary on the Mishnah tractate Pirkei Avot that was published as Maor Israel and Anaf Etz Avot. Since this time, the Rabbi’s sons Yitzhak and David Yosef have continued publishing commentary on their father’s impactful work.

His works of writing were so influential during the 1950’s and 60’s to the Jewish community that he was given the Israel Prize for Rabbinical literature in 1970.

The influence he had on not only his people, but the world, was vast during his life. He played a big part in negotiations for peace in the Arab-Israeli conflict in 1990. He spoke on behalf of and was a main figure for the left-center Labour Party, and allowed for the inclusion of Shas in most Israeli governments. This ultimately led to Maran’s long-time friend, Shimon Peres, being elected as the Israeli President in 2007.

Maran has been described as the greatest spiritual leader of Shas. He embodies strength of character and keen intellect, which can be felt and experienced through his portraits. The impact he left on the Jewish community will last forever. He was a man not unlike any other, but he sacrificed his time for the betterment of his community. Maran Harav Ovadia Yosef passed away in 2013, at the age of 93, in his home city of Jerusalem. However, his portrait reminds us of what is humanly possible, and his presence protects and enlightens us.
