About The Tzadik:
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, known as “the Rebbe,” was the leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement and is one of the most recognizable men in Judaism.
Date of birth: April 18, 1902 (Hebrew י"א בניסן תרס"ב), in Nikolayev, a town in southern Ukraine.
His father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, was a renowned scholar, while his mother, Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson, was an aristocratic woman from a prestigious rabbinic family. He had two younger brothers, Dovber and Yisroel Aryeh Leib. When Menachem Mendel was five years old, the family moved to Yakaterinoslav, now Dnepropetrovsk, where his father was appointed chief rabbi.
On Monday, Sivan 28, 5701 (June 23, 1941), the Rebbe and the Rebbetzin arrived in the United States, having been miraculously rescued, by the grace of Almighty G‑d, from the European holocaust.
The Rebbe’s leadership reached Jewish communities around the world through Chabad shluchim, who established Chabad Houses and encouraged Jewish learning, holiday observance, and mitzvot. His teachings and outreach continue to inspire Jewish life around the world.
Died: 3rd of Tammuz, in the year 5754 (ג' בתמוז תשנ"ד) June 12, 1994, at the age of 92.
