About The Tzadik:
Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv (Hebrew יוסף שלום אלישיב)
Born: April 10, 1910 (Hebrew ב׳ בְּנִיסָן תר״ע) in Lithuania.
Rabbi Elyashiv grew up as an only child. He was a Haredi Rabbi and Ashkenaz posek who lived in Jerusalem.
Rav Elyashiv was the paramount leader of Israel and the Diaspora Lithuanian-Haredi community. Many Ashkenazi Jews regarded him as the posek ha-dor, the leading contemporary authority on halacha and Jewish law.
He spent most of his days engaged in Talmudical study. He delivered lectures in Talmud and Shulkhan Arukh at a local synagogue in the Meah Shearim area in Jerusalem, where he lived.
He received supplicants from all over the world and answered the most complex Halakhic inquiries. He had the opportunity and the zchut to leave a great legacy and many talmidei chachamim who continue to teach and lead the Ashkenaz and Sephardic Jews in Israel and worldwide.
One of his students is the Gaon Rabbi Porat Yosef, who currently lives in Israel.
Died: July 18, 2012 (Hebrew כ״ח בְּתַמּוּז תשע״ב), Jerusalem, at the age of 102.
