Rabbi Kook was the first Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of the Land of Israel and was a prolific and innovative author and sometimes even a radical thinker.
He saw the need to address modernity’s challenges by identifying its positive aspects. The secular pioneers, in his view, were ethical people advancing a divine plan of redemption.
He was one of the most active Jewish figures of his time, both in terms of public and social action as well as religious thinking and writing and in combining the world of religion with Zionism. Throughout his life, he traveled to many places to advance his ideas and teachings, and his influence is evident today.
One of his famous articles became a well-known song that uplifts and inspires many young Jewish around the world, especially in Israel. The song is called כנפי רוח״" and means wings of the wind.
Rabbi Kook advocated the establishment of a “Torah of the Land of Israel” that would combine halakha and Haggadah.
